A principal of a madrassah in Moulvibazar has been arrested on charges of raping and kidnapping a female teacher of the same institution.
Moulvibazar model police station on Wednesday night arrested the accused, Maulana Altafur Rahman, principal of the Jameya Ayesha Siddika Moulvibazar Mahila Madrasah in Mustafapur area of sadar upazila.聽
The victim filed a complaint against Altafur with the Moulvibazar model police station on Monday.
The victim teacher worked at the madrassah since 2019. When the madrasa was closed on March 20, 2022, the students and other teachers went home, but Altafur did not allow her to go home, and raped her at night and recorded a video.
Later, that teacher left the job from the madrasah.
In May 2022, the teacher got married, and even after her marriage, Altafur used to talk to the victim over phone, and threatened to release the video.
The victim鈥檚 husband understood the issues and filed a written complaint with the Moulvibazar Ulama Parishad.
As Altafur nvolvement in the rape was proven after the investigation by the Ulama Parishad, he was expelled from the parishad on November 9, 2023, and declared undesirable from the community arena.
Moulvibazar model police station officer-in-charge Gazi Md Mahbubur Rahman said that Altafur was arrested on rape charges.
