A total of 105 children were killed in Bangladesh during the recent student-led mass uprising in July and August, said social welfare and women and children鈥檚 affairs adviser Sharmin S Murshid.

She made the remark during a press conference held at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday.


She announced that each family of the killed children, under 18 years of age, would receive Tk 50,000 as compensation.

The list was finalised by the Health Services Division under health and family welfare ministry.

The monetary grant and a certificate will be distributed on World Children鈥檚 Day, Monday, among families of deceased children.

A ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Additionally, Murshid noted that Tk 82,70,898 has been allocated to assist students injured during the movement through Social Service Office and the Upazila Patient Welfare Association.

The ministry is also in the process of securing $5 million from the World Bank to fund rehabilitation and treatment for those affected by the uprising.

Furthermore, she said women and child affairs ministry currently operates 12 day-care centres and is advocating for the establishment of day-care facilities in all government institutions by June 2026.

The government is also exploring the possibility of introducing private-sector day-cares to enhance employment opportunities and provide essential services.
