An Awami League activist, who was hacked by miscreants on Sunday night, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Monday.
The victim, Jahangir Hossain, 47, is survived by his wife and a daughter.
Three to four miscreants on two motorcycles came to Jahangir’s place and hacked him indiscriminately at about 10:30pm on Sunday, said witnesses and family.
Local people and the family took him to the DMCH emergency department where the duty doctor decarled him dead early Monday, they said.
‘We are local residents at Jatrabari. My uncle had no occupation, but he was an Awami League activist,’ said his nephew Mohammad Rubel.
Rubel said that his uncle went to a nearest shop and was hacked on his way home.
‘We did not know who were behind the attack,’ he added.
Jatrabari police station inspector (investigation) Md Mohsin Hossain said that the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examinations.
‘We are now with the victim’s family. The body will be buried tomorrow. The process of filing a case is underway,’ the inspector added.
