The Bangladesh government has published the guidelines for admission in the government secondary schools between Class I and IX.

As per the guidelines, the aspiring students can apply online only and then the students will be selected in digital lottery programme.

The digital lottery will be conducted centrally by the ‘Dhaka City Admission Commission’ while no students will be allowed for admission from outside of the selected list.

There will be maximum 55 students in each section of a class and quotas will be secured for the students from catchment areas, children of freedom fighters, special need children and children of the staff of education ministry and its other departments.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry on Wednesday issued the guideline on its website.

The same division will complete the overall admission activities and will fix the date for the central digital lottery programme and application fee for admission as per the ministry law.

Students can be admitted from the entry level or Class I to Class IX, depending on vacancies, in the government secondary schools, the guidelines read.

Following the National Education Policy – 2010, the admission of the students aged over six years will have to be ensured while the children with special needs will get extra facility.

At the entry level, the age of the students, however, can be minimum five years on January 1, 2025 and can be maximum seven years on December 31, 2025.

For operating the admission activities, three committees will be formed – Dhaka City Admission Committee, District Level Admission Committee and Upazila Level Admission Committee.

The 12-member Dhaka City Admission Committee, headed by the secondary and higher education director general, will conduct the lottery and selection process.

After publication of the admission circular, the aspiring students can apply online. Before the lottery, a recognised technical organisation would assess the applications.

Following the lottery, a waiting list also will be prepared beside the list of the selected students.

If any seat becomes vacant in any school then students can be admitted from the waiting list.

The Dhaka City Admission Committee will send the list of selected students to the schools across the country and the schools will take initiative to complete the admission by publishing the lists on websites and notice boards.

The aspiring students can select five schools and the school heads will find out the vacant seats in their own schools.

As per the quota reservation, 40 per cent seats will be reserved for the students from catchment areas near the schools in Dhaka metropolitan city, five per cent seats will be reserved for the children of freedom fighters, 10 per cent seats for the students who passed from Class V in any school and want to admit in Class VI in the same school, two per cent seats for the students with special needs, one per cent seats for the children of the employees under the ministry and two to three per cent quotas for the students with their siblings studying in the same school.
