
A Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader was hacked to death allegedly due to previous enmity at Mirsarai in Chattogram on Thursday.
The incident took place at the Baraiyarhat municipality, said ATM Shifatul Mazdar, officer-in-charge of Zorarganj police station.
The victim, Kabir Ahmed, 70, a resident of Ganakchara village, was a former vice-president of Hinguli union BNP.
Kabir Ahmed’s two sons, Didarul Alam, 42, and Jamshed Alam, 35, were also injured during the attack, along with three others shop employees – Abdul Barek, 28, Shariful Islam, 30, and a thirty-year-old unidentified individual.
The police said that the injured were taken to Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex, while the unidentified man, in critical condition, was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
People of the area said that, a group of 7-8 armed assailants went to Kabir Ahmed’s shop and attacked him. He died on the spot, while his sons and others sustained injuries trying to intervene.
The OC Shifatul Mazdar said that the attack stemmed from a longstanding dispute.
Legal action will be taken after the family members file a case with the police station, the OC added.
