
A Dhaka court on Monday granted seven-day remand to six people arrested in connection with the organised robbery at Mohammadpur in the capital late at night wearing army and Rapid Action Battalion uniforms early Saturday.
Those remanded are Zakir Hossain, 36, Shariful Islam Tushar, 34, Masudur Rahman, 42, Ariful Islam Tarafdar, 30, Zahid Hasan, 35 and Abdus Salam, 50.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mosharraf Hossain granted the seven-day remand each after investigation officer in the case, sub-inspector Rashedul Islam, produced them before the court and pleaded for 10-day remand.
The RAB on Sunday arrested eight robbery suspects, including five sacked military personnel, while Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested three suspects over looting a flat in the capital鈥檚 Mohammadpur area early Saturday.
A group of 25 or 30 people in Army and RAB uniforms looted Tk 75.50 lakh in cash, 70 bhoris of gold, two iPhones, and one android mobile phone from the flat on the third-floor of a five-storey building in the Swapnanir
Housing area of Mohammadpur from about 3:30am to about 4:10am, the police said, referring to the statement of the case lodged with the Mohammadpur police station.
The robbers, identifying themselves as members of law enforcement agencies, stormed into the house in the name of recovering illegal arms at a time when the government had been conducting joint drives across the country to recover illegal arms and bring drug peddlers to book.
The joint drives began on September 4.
