
At least 9 people, including two women and a child, were killed and 23 others injured in separate road accidents in Chattogram and Faridpur districts on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that four people, including three of a family, were killed and three others injured in two separate road accidents in Chattogram at noon.
Police said that the accident took place in Bartakiya area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at about 1.30pm when a cargo truck hit a CNG-run taxi from behind, leaving its three passengers, including a woman and a child, dead on the spot and three others injured.
Later, the injured were sent to a local hospital.
The deceased are Nurjahan Begum, 45, wife of Abul Kalam, her daughter Kajal Rekha, 22, and six-month-old son Mohammad Anas, residents of South Bagachatar area of Sitakunda upazila in the district.
In another accident, madrassah student Mohammad Azwad, 13, son of Alamgir Hossain, died on the spot after being hit by a bus in Hathazari Sadar upazila on the day.
United News of Bangladesh reports: Five people including four members of a family were killed in separate road accidents in Mirsarai and Hathazari upazilas of Chattogram on Tuesday,
In Mirsarai, a truck crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Khoiyachhora area, leaving all its four passengers, including a child, dead on the spot when they were on their way to attend an event in Sitakunda.
The auto-rickshaw got smashed and truck fell into a roadside ditch after the crash, said police and witnesses.
The deceased were identified as Kajol Rekha, Nurjahan, Shirina, and 7-month-old infant Nihat.
Sohel Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Jorarganj Highway Police Station, said they went to spot upon receiving news of the accident and recovered the bodies.
In a separate incident in Hathazari upazila, Mohammad Azwad Mahin, a madrasha student, was killed after being hit by a speeding bus on the Chittagong-Khagrachhari road.
Following the accident, fellow madrasa students and local residents blocked the road in protest. Police later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
In Faridpur, a head-on collision between two buses left five people dead and at least 20 others injured in Mallikpur Sadar upazila of the district early Tuesday, said a United News of Bangladesh report, quoting police.
The crash involved two buses, one belonging to ‘Jhenaidah Paribahan’ coming from Dhaka to Jhenaidah and the other from ‘Green Express’ heading to Dhaka from Jhenaidah.
According to highway police, at least 15 of the injured have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. However, the identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be confirmed.
‘Highway police and fire service personnel have jointly conducted rescue operations at the scene,’ said Karimpur highway police officer-in-charge Mohammad Salauddin Chowdhury
The buses involved in the accident had been seized and brought to the Karimpur highway police station, the OC added.
