A fresh case was filed on Monday night against 900 people, including deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other Awami League leaders over shooting at the protesters during the anti-quota movement.

Hasina, also the Awami League president, is now facing more than 200 cases, including on chargers of crimes against humanity and murders, filed against her.


Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Barishal city unit member secretary Ziauddin Sikder Zia filed the case with Kotwali police station in Barishal.

Confirming the matter on Tuesday, Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that he had received the 12-page complaint submitted to the police station on Monday night.

‘It will take time to register it as a regular case after investigation because of such a huge number of accused,’ he said.

Most of the accused in the case were prominent AL leaders and its front organisation leaders and activists, the OC added.

Former ministers Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Zahid Farooq Shamim, former mayors of Barishal City Corporation Abul Khair Abdullah alias Khokon Serniabad, Serniabad Sadek Abdullah and their family members and followers, former Zilla Parishad chairman AKM Jahangir and others were also accused in the case.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff along with the students and the crowd, were standing in front of the C&B Road BADC office in the city for a peace rally programme announced by the BNP on July 19.

At that time, the accused premeditatedly attacked the plaintiff and others with arms and blasted cocktail bombs at Hasina’s order, leaving several injured.

At about 3:30 pm, the accused opened fire with pistol to kill and injured the students and the witnesses in the case.

Different charges have also been brought against the accused including stealing the plaintiff's licensed pistol, iPhone and gold chains, mobiles, money of other witnesses.
