A workshop on the Ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur, under the World Heritage Volunteers 2024 Campaign, was inaugurated at an auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital on Tuesday.

Nagar Upakhyan, a heritage research unit of Perceive, in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and International Centre for Development and Environmental Studies of Sonargaon University will conduct the 10-day workshop, which will be held from October 15 to 24 in Dhaka and Paharpur.


Mahfuzul Haque, director of the International Centre for Development and Environmental Studies at Sonargaon University inaugurated the event. 聽

A total of 14 people from various backgrounds will participate in the workshop, which features a series of lectures on heritage conservation and a field visit.

Under the initiative, two more workshops on the Sundarbans mangrove forest and the architectural works of Bangladeshi architect Muzharul Islam will be held in November and December, respectively, said Nagar Upakhyan co-founder and director Fatiha Polin.

Participants will be awarded certificates upon completion of the programme, she added.

Within the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, the World Heritage Volunteers 2024 Campaign initiative was launched in 2008, in collaboration with the Coordination Committee for International Voluntary Service, to mobilize and involve young people and youth organizations in the preservation, protection, and promotion of world heritage.聽
