The Indian Border Security Force detained a Bangladeshi man in the Sylhet border area on Tuesday afternoon.
The detained is Hochhan Ahmad, 41, son of Abdul Haque of Pashchim Pangthumai village at Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet, the police said.
Local residents said that Hochhan was detained while grazing cows near the border pillar number 1268 in the Pangthumai area on Tuesday afternoon.
At one point, one of his cows entered Indian territory and Hochhan went to bring back the cow from there when a petrol team of the BSF detained him and took him to their camp in the area, the locals said.Â
Commander of 48 Battalion Border Guard Bangladesh Lieutenant Colonel Md Hafizur Rahman could not be reached despite repeated attempts over the phone for his comment in this regard.
Confirming the incident, Gowainghat police station officer-in-charge Sarkar Tofail Ahmed, however, said that the victim’s family lodged a general diary with the police station in this regard on Tuesday night.
‘The BGB authorities are trying to bring back the detained Bangladeshi man from India through holding a flag meeting with the BSF authorities,’ the OC said in the afternoon.
