
Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Wednesday at a press conference called on the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus to take immediate steps to break syndicates of the deposed Sheikh Hasina government.
The reign of fascist Sheikh Hasina ended on August 5, but the syndicates of that time are still controlling markets of the country and, as a result, abnormal price hikes of essential commodities are continuing, they said.
The Ganatantra Mancha organised the press conference at the Nagarik Oikya central office on Topkhana Road, where its coordinator and also president of the Oikya, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, said that spirits of the recent students and people movement could not be fulfilled without controlling price hikes of essential commodities and controlling law and order.
The ordinary people of the country are facing problems to run their families for price hikes of the essential commodities, Manna said.
He also called on the interim government to take steps to control law and order of the country.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that syndicates of the Sheikh Hasina resign were still active and controlling the markets.
The interim government should take immediate steps to break these, he added.
Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said that the people of the country were eagerly waiting to see implementation of spirits of the students and people movement.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon said that the people wanted to establish good governance and democratic rights of the people.
Ganosamhati Andolan central leader Bachchu Bhuiyan said that the interim government should give the next general election after implementing required reforms within a justified time.
