
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday placed former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumdar on a three-day remand in a case filed for the murder of Jagannath University student Ikramul Haque Sajid during the student-people uprising.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Ali Haider passed the order as the police produced him before the court with a seven-day remand prayer, court inspector Md Asaduzzaman confirmed.
A team of Kafrul police arrested Kamal Ahmed Mojumdar, also former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-15, at his Gulshan office at about 12:30am on Saturday, said Kafrul police station officer-in-charge Kazi Golam Mostafa.
‘Kamal Mojumdar has been named in two cases filed with the Kafrul police station, including a murder during the recent student movement,’ said the police officer.
Kamal Mojumdar, who also owns SS Agro Complex, had gone into hiding along with other ministers and lawmakers after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 amid a student-people uprising.
Ikramul’s father filed the murder case against 73 people on September 7.
According to the case statement, Ikramul, a Master’s student of Jagannath University, suffered bullet injuries during the mass uprising at Mirpur-10 on August 4.
He was taken to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment on August 14.
