The election commission of the Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday published the final list of candidates for the October 26 polls, with industrialist-turned-sports organiser Tarafder Ruhul Amin withdrawing his candidature for the senior vice-president’s post leaving Imrul Hasan as the lone candidate for the single post.
A total of 46 candidates – two for the hot seat of president, one for the senior vice president, six for vice president, and 37 for executive committee members – will compete for the 21 posts of the BFF executive committee. Â
A total of 133 councillors will exercise their voting rights to elect one president, one senior vice president, four vice presidents, and 15 executive members.
Tarafder submitted his withdrawal appeal through a representative at the BFF on Sunday.
There was some confusion regarding the validity of the withdrawal, as he had appealed to the general secretary of BFF instead of the election commissioner. He then readdressed the appeal to the commission, which was eventually accepted.
Two-time BFF vice-president Tabith Awal and grassroots level organiser from Dinajpur district, AFM Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, will compete for the president’s post.
Meanwhile, six candidates will compete for the vice-president post. They are Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, Wahid Uddin Chowdhury, Naser Shahriar Jahedi, Shafiqul Islam Manik, Sabbir Ahmed Aref, and Syed Rummon Bin Wali Sabbir.
However, a total of 62 nomination papers, four for president, three for senior vice-president, 12 for vice-president and 43 for executive committee members, were collected by the aspirants on the final day of the nomination papers collection on October 12.
