
Unidentified assailants shot three members of a Rohingya family to death at a camp designated for living the persecuted Myanmar nationals in the Lalpahar area under Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Monday.
The deceased are Ahammad Hossain, 65, his son Sayedul Amin, 28, and daughter Asma Akter, 15, of camp number 17 of X-block in the Lalpahar area.
Additional deputy inspector general and the 14th Armed Police Battalion commander Md Iqbal said that over 15 unidentified assailants stormed into the victims’ living room at about 4:30 am on Monday.
The group shot at Ahmed Hossain and his family members, he said, adding that two members of the family were killed on the spot and injured Asma was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The police official said that they were trying to identify and arrest the killers.
With the latest three deceased, at least 74 Rohingya people were killed in their camps and adjacent areas in Cox’s Bazar,
mainly due to conflict between two armed groups of Rohingyas, between January 1 and October 21 this year, according to the police and Rohingya community leaders.
