
Officials of the Bangladesh Railway backtracked from evicting illegal infrastructure near Mymensingh Railway Station on Monday after locals chased them.
No injuries or arrests were reported in the incident. 聽
At around 12:00pm, a team led by Dhaka railway estate officer Abdus Sobhan along with railway police started an eviction drive in front of the station.
They were trying to break a wall besides a mosque. Earlier the railway evicted some floating shops besides the wall.
Mymensingh Railway police sub-inspector Amit Hasan said that when railway officials started to break the wall with an excavator, some people from the mosque barred them saying that it would damage the mosque too.
The locals became agitated during altercation between them, he said, adding that the locals started to hurl stones to the excavator and the railway staffs left the spot stopping the drive.
Members of the Bangladesh Army later came and calm down the situation, the police official added, mentioning that agitated people also beat the excavator driver, and he got minor injuries.
