The civil engineering department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology held a workshop to prevent plastic pollution with the slogan ‘Raise awareness, use jute as an alternative to plastic’ at the university on Monday.

Under the initiative of Sustainable Capacity Building to Reduce Irreversible Pollution project of the department, acting vice-chancellor of the CUET Professor Sudip Kumar Pal was present as chief guest at the workshop at Teacher-Student Centre auditorium of the university, said a press release.


CUET’s acting registrar Professor Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, civil engineering department head Professor Aysha Akter, research and extension directorate director Professor Sajal Chandra Banik, SCIP Plastics Project scientific expert Professor Asiful Haque, student welfare directorate deputy director Md Saiful Islam were present as special guest at the workshop.

Presided over by the SCIP Plastics Project scientific director Professor Farzana Rahman Juthi, the event was hosted jointly by Niloy Das and Trisha Das.

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the workshop was sponsored by German Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, KUET, Khulna City Corporation, Bangladesh Jute Association, Mongla Port Municipality, Khulna Nirala Residential Area Janakalyan Samity, German Institute for Social-Ecological Research, among others, added the press release.
