Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University organised a procession on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day that began in front of BSMMU's C block on Sunday with this year's theme ‘Say no to fragile bones’.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation department chairman Professor MA Shakur inaugurated the procession by releasing balloon after a short speech. Doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, officers and employees were present in the event.


After the completion of the procession, an important seminar was held in the Kamrul Islam Seminar Room of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department on the ground floor of C block.

The main speaker in the seminar was assistant professor Nadeem Kamal. He explained in detail about the causes, remedies, prevention of osteoporosis.

The programme was moderated by assistant professor Golam Nabi Azad. The panel of experts included Professor Syed Mozaffar Ahmed and Associate Professor Nuruzzaman Khandaker Noman.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department chairman Professor MA Shakur presided over the event, said a press release.

In the seminar, it was informed that patients need to eat foods rich in vitamin D and calcium. If vitamin D is not self-sufficient in food, an adult can get 20-25 minutes of sunlight daily from 11:00am at least two days a week.

Finally, associate professor Farzana Khanum Soma thanked participants. Healthcare Pharmaceuticals was the scientific partner in this event.
