Seven-year-old Musa Khan, who was shot in the head inside the garage of his Rampura house on July 19 during student protests demanding quota reform in government jobs, was sent to Singapore on Tuesday for advanced treatment.
‘The interim government has provided Tk 1.75 crore for the treatment, while private television channel Channel i covered Tk 55 lakh for the air ambulance,’ said Musa’s father, Md Mostafizur Rahman.
Musa, accompanied by his parents, will be treated at the National University Hospital in Singapore for three months.Â
‘We need an additional Tk 10 lakh to stay in Singapore, which we do not have,’ Mostafizur said, adding that he applied for the fund on Monday to the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, established to ensure the welfare of the families of martyrs from the July-August 2024 student movement and to provide financial and humanitarian support to the families of victims from that movement.
Musa, who was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Combined Military Hospital on August 26, underwent several surgeries, but his condition did not improve; as a result, the physicians recommended taking him abroad for advanced treatment, he added.
He said that Musa’s condition has improved slightly, as his fever, which had reached 107 degrees, has now come down to 100 degrees.
The bullet that hit Musa’s head also struck his grandmother, Maya Islam, in the abdomen, resulting in her death on July 20.Â
Earlier, the interim-government announced that it would provide free medical care to those injured during the July-August student-led mass uprising and send individuals abroad for treatment if it was not possible in Bangladesh.
