
State-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh will start selling commodities at subsidised rates to its cardholders, as well as consumers without cards through truck sales today in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The interim government made the decision amid soaring prices of essential commodities.
Interim government adviser to youth and sports and labour and employment ministries Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan will inaugurate the operations at 10:00am today in the capital Dhaka.
According to a TCB press release, the TCB will sell products, including edible oil and lentil, along with rice provided by the Directorate General of Food at subsidised prices to the general consumers through 50 trucks in Dhaka and 20 trucks in Chattogram.
The release also said that the TCB has been continuing its operations for selling essential items like edible oil and lentil at subsidised prices among some one crore family card holding low-income group people under the overall directives of the Ministry of Commerce.
This programme will run from October 24 to November 31. However, the TCB could extend the operation until the inflationary situation comes to a tolerable level.
Each consumer can buy maximum 2 litres of edible oil at Tk聽100 a litre, 2 kilograms of lentil at Tk聽60 a kilogram and 5 kilograms of rice at Tk聽30 a kilogram.
