A leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was expelled on allegation of breaching the party discipline, a day after an audio clip of him seeking extortion from a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader went viral on social media.
The expelled leader is Faruk Hossain, a member of JCD Rajshahi University unit convening committee.
A press release issued by JCD central committee office secretary Jahangir Alam on Tuesday night stated that according to the decision of JCD central committee, Faruk Hossain has been expelled from the party based on specific allegations of breaching the party’s organisational discipline.
‘All party members and activists have also been instructed not to keep any contact or communication with Faruk,’ the release added.
Earlier, a leaked audio of Faruk went viral on social media on Monday where he was heard asking extortion money from RU BCL Business Administration Institute unit joint-secretary Saikat Raihan for withdrawing his name from a case filed by JCD RU unit convening committee member Mohammad Ahsan Habib.
Ahsan Habib filed the case with Motihar Police Station against 101 named and 200 to 300 more unnamed BCL leaders and activists on October 8 on accusation of attacking students in front of RU Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 16.
BCL leader Saikat Raihan was arrested in the case filed by Ahsan Habib when he came to the IBA to attend his semester final examination on October 17.
