
At least four people sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight reportedly between two groups of drug peddlers at Geneva Camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Saturday evening.
Three of the injured were admitted to Shaheed Surhrawardy Medical College Hospital and one was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
One of the injured was identified as Sazzad Hossin, 13; he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk.
Sazzad’s Mother Joynob Begum said that his son sustained bullet injuries when he went to collect water from the camp.
Confirming the incident to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that the gunfight began at about 6:00pm and continued for hours.
‘The gunfight took place over spreading dominance over the drug business in the area,’ he said, adding that additional police forces were deployed in the area.
He said that a tense situation was prevailing around the camp area.
