
The recently launched platform Sangskriti Bangla has formed a 31-member committee with the aim of establishing cultural unity centring on the democratic and humane aspirations of the people stirred up in the July-August uprising.
Jahangirnagar University professor Masood Imran has been made convener, while poet Chanchal Ashraf, poet-essayist Sohel Hasan Galib, poet Hijol Jobayer made joint conveners of the committee formed on Saturday.
In a statement, signed by its member secretary Soroishwarja Muhommod, they said that the platform is committed to building a new outline of collective culture centring on the Bangla language, geography, and people of the country.
It also said that the platform was started with the desire to awaken the cultural aspirations of people of the country regardless of caste, religion, colour, language. ‘The main aim of the platform is to establish human dignity against the discrimination and hatred.’
The members of the committee are poet-essayist Kumar Chakraborty, poet-essayist Razu Alauddin, poet Mahbub Kabir, poet-playwright Janis Mahmun, poet-filmmaker Tokon Thakoor, theatre activist Nasreen Mahmun, doctor-researcher Shahnaz Pervin, journalist Nasreen Akhtar, writer Nurunnabi Shanto, writer-translator Syed Faiz Ahmed, writer-teacher Kamrun Nahar Sheela, researcher Golam Arif, poet Nadim Mahmud, teacher Zeenat Jahan Panni, cultural activist Tanzila Akhtar Tama, doctor Shakib Hasan Dhrubo , writer-translator KM Rakib, researcher Tanvir Sobhan, film activist Mahmuda Mahia, singer Pragata Naoha Mahmun, Wahid Mugdha, Syed Nazmul Azam Alif, Sabil Ahmed, Rishabh Zabin Ashraf and Faiyaz Anam Swanan.
