GKM Mustafizur Rahman

Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University.

President Md Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university, made the appointment, according to a notification, signed by deputy-secretary Mohammad Shahinur Islam on Sunday.


Proffessor Mustafizur, an internationally renowned soil scientist, will succeed professor Md Giashuddin Miah, as the eighth VC of the university, said a press release.

Mustafizur Rahman became a professor at BSMRAU in 2008. Earlier, he served as the head of soil and animal science department. He also played role as a provost of the university.

He completed his Bachelor鈥檚 degree in agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1988, followed by a Master鈥檚 in soil science in 1993. He later obtained PhD in pesticide toxicology and Post Doc from Chiba University of Japan in 2000.

Before joining at BSMRAU, Mustafizur worked as a senior scientific officer for nearly 14 years at the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture. He was a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.

With over 100 publications, professor Mustafizur is a distinguished member of the Asian and Pacific Association of Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Engineering and the International Union of Soil Sciences. He serves as an external examiner for Putrajaya University in Malaysia and Bangladesh Agricultural University.
