Students showed symbolic red cards to the constitution of 1972 and the president at the rally held at the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on Dhaka University campus on Sunday.

They termed the ’72 constitution as Awami-constitution and said that the constitution failed to ensure the rights of people.

Anaz Bin Munir, a DU student and Inqilab Mancha member, said that the constitution could not ensure the rights of people rather helped the Awami-government to establish fascism in the country.

The platform’s spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi said that there exist many flaws and contradictions in the constitution.

He mentioned that the past governments, including Awami League, misused the ’72 constitution to ensure their rules depriving people of their rights.

Several amendments were made since the formulation of the ’72 constitution but those could not ensure people’s right but strengthened the people in power, said Sharif, demanding formulation of a new constitution.

Demanding the removal of the president, Sharif called for all political parties to unite to end the political crisis centring the president’s removal.

The speakers said that they would be on the street till cancellation of ’72 constitution and the president’s removal.
