
Three were injured after a car ran over a group of students on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday.
The accident occurred near the flyover in front of the third terminal of the airport at about 1:00pm, said Ershad Hamid, officer-in-charge of the Airport police station.
A video footage of the accident went viral on social media where netizens expressed concern over people’s safety on roads.
The footage shows that a group of students were walking along the roadside when a white private car suddenly approached from behind and struck them, pushing several students onto the road and causing injuries.
Airport police station officer-in-charge Ershad said that two of the injured sustained broken legs and one sustained a minor head injury.
‘One of them was released from the hospital while other two were undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation,’ he said.
The private car was seized and the driver was detained, the police official said, adding that taking legal procedure regarding the incident was underway.
