
Sylhet division secured a six-wicket win over Chattogram inside three days in the second round of the National Cricket League at the Sylhet Academy Ground on Monday.
After the bowlers staged a strong comeback for Sylhet in the second innings, the batters Pinak Ghosh (62) and Taufiq Khan Tushar (51) struck half-centuries to chase down the 220-run target.
Skipper Zakir Hasan (36) and Amite Hasan (43) also contributed crucial runs in their chase.
In the first innings, Chattogram posted 198 and wrapped up Sylhet for 152, with pacer Irfan Hossain taking a fifer, giving Chattogram a 46-run lead.
However, Sylhet bowlers excelled, with paceman Rejaur Rahman and spinners Nasum
Ahmed and Nayeem Ahmed each taking three wickets as they restricted Chattogram to 173 runs in the second innings, setting the stage for batters to chase down the target successfully.
Wicket-keeper batter Zakir will join the national team for the second Test against South Africa, scheduled to begin today.
At the BKSP-3 Ground, Dhaka division were in a commanding position on Day 3, reducing Rangpur to 28-2 in 14 overs, still trailing by 46 runs.
Naeem Islam and Md Rizwan were batting on 17 and five runs at the close of the day鈥檚 play.聽
Salauddin Sakil and Anaml Haque each took one wicket for Dhaka.
Earlier, Ashikur Rahman Shibli notched up 129 to steer Dhaka to 327 in response to Rangpur鈥檚 253, taking a 74-run first-innings lead.
Ashikur took 186 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries and five sixes to play the highest-scoring knock while Joyraj Sheikh scored 87 runs.
In Khulna, four half-centuries, including Anamul Haque Bijoy鈥檚 95, helped Khulna set a mammoth 408-9d in the first innings against Barishal.
Opener Anamul fell short of five runs to achieve his 24th first-class hundred before getting dismissed by Moin Khan.
In reply, Barishal reached 28-0, with openers Iftakhar Hossain Ifti and Abdul Mazid unbeaten on 18 and 9 runs, respectively.
After a complete washout on the first day, only 34.2 overs were possible on the second day of the match.
