
Bangladeshi young artist Ashfika Rahman has won the prestigious Future Generation Art Prize 2024, the seventh edition of the global art prize for artists under 35.
The winner was announced by an international jury on October 29 in Kyiv in Ukraine.
Ashfika Rahman received a total of $1,00,000, including $60,000 in cash and an extra $40,000 to help her art projects.
‘Future Generation Art Prize offers a unique platform where voices can be heard openly, allowing us to be both expressive and politically engaged. This is a space where people from all over the world can speak freely. I’m very grateful for the opportunity, and I want to thank everyone who has stood by me throughout my artistic journey,’ said Ashfika Rahman.
Ashfika’s winning work comprises photography, print, text and sculpture to examine the role of women in society. Her work demonstrates a commitment and a focus on the ideals of community building and repair in the face of collective trauma. First Edition of the work was commissioned by Samdani Art Foundation and exhibited in Dhaka Art Summit 2022.
Ashfika Rahman is a mixed media visual artist from Dhaka. She studied in Bangladesh and Germany and is a faculty member at Pathshala Media Institute in Dhaka.
Featuring new works and recent projects by shortlisted artists, selected from over 12,000 entries across about 200 countries.
The exhibition of the 21 shortlisted artists for the 7th edition of the Future Generation Art Prize is under way at the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kyiv until 19 January 2025.
