A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday placed Awami League advisory council member and AL-led 14 party alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amu on six-day remand over the allegations of killing businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital’s New Market area.
Court officials said that Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Emran Ahmed passed the order as police produced him before the court seeking 10-day remand in custody.
Amu’s lawyer Swapan Ray Chowdhury was thrown out of the court by several lawyers during the hearing as the lawyer sought bail for the plaintiff, they added.Â
A businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead in the capital’s Nilkhet area during the Student Movement Against Discrimination on July 19.
On Wednesday afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch arrested Amu in the capital’s West Dhanmondi area.
Police said that Amu was accused in 15 cases, including murder and crimes committed against the humanity during the July-August uprising.
He was elected lawmaker from Jhalakati-2 constituency three times and served as minister of industries during 2014–2019.
The AL veteran was hiding since the fall of the AL regime in the face of a student-mass uprising that forced prime minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country on August 5.
