Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal is keen to return to competitive cricket with the forthcoming NCL T20, said national team selector Hannan Sarkar on Wednesday.

Tamim was last seen in competitive cricket during the last edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League for Prime Bank in May.

The left-handed opening batter played the full season, where he scored 539 runs at an average of 33.68 with six fifties.

‘Yes, he is keen to play in the NCL T20,’Hannan told reporters on Wednesday.

Hannan also said that it was yet to be confirmed whether Tamim would play the whole NCL T20. But he mentioned that Tamim would represent his home team, Chattogram.

‘We’ve got enough time to sort out how many matches and for how long he will play. We will discuss that.’

The NCL T20 is scheduled to begin on December 11. The single-league format tournament final will be held on December 23.

Tamim, who last played for Bangladesh in September 2023, will play for the defending champion Fortune Barishal in the upcoming edition of BPL.

He was retained by the franchise before the draft along with another veteran, Mushfiqur Rahim.
