
The advisers’ council on economic affairs in a meeting on Wednesday approved a proposal from the ministry of youth and sports seeking increase of ceiling on sanctioning fund under the operating budget.
Officials attending the meeting at secretariat said that the ceiling had been increased to Tk 18 crore for emergency needs under the section 76 of the public procurement rules 2008.
Earlier, maximum Tk 1 lakh could be sanctioned by a ministry from allocation under the operating budget.
The officials said the approval would enable the youth and sports ministry to carry out renovation of three stadiums in Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet by the army.
The youth and sports ministry also got approval by the committee in the same meeting to award the renovation works costing around Tk 30 crore.
Finance adviser Salehuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting in which energy division’s proposal to purchase liquefied natural gas from Brunei Energy Services and Trading Sdn, Brunei on long term basis under government-to-government deal was also approved.
The finance adviser also presided over the meeting of advisers council on government purchase at the same venue and approved proposals for procuring two cargos of LNG, 1,90,000 tonnes of fertiliser and 50,000 tonnes of wheat.
The approvals will allow M/S Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore to supply one cargo of LNG with per MMBtu cost $14.13.
M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited of Switzerland will supply the other cargo with per MMBtu costing $14.57.
Purchasing 50,000 tonnes of wheat from M/S Aston Agro-Industrial
SA, Switzerland under international tender method will cost $292.14 per tonne.
The purchase of fertiliser from Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company under six separate proposals will cost around Tk 2531 crore.
Besides, procurement of 12.6 crore books under National Curriculum and Textbook Board in two proposals costing around Tk 527 crore were approved.
