The 76th anniversary of the birth of fiction writer, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed was observed on Wednesday.

Himu Paribahan, a platform of Humayun Ahmed’s fans, organised different programmes marking the day.


‘A team from Himu Paribahan placed floral wreath at the grave of Humayun Ahmed at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur in the morning. We observed the day organising various programmes,’Ahsan Habib Murad, a coordinator of Himu Paribahan, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

Born on November 13, 1948 at Kutubpur in Netrakona, Humayun Ahmed ruled the hearts of readers with his fictions for over four decades.

Humayun Ahmed-written literary works include ‘Nandita Narake’, ‘Phera’, ‘Jyochhna O Jananir Galpa’, ‘Deyal’, ‘Gauripur Junction’, ‘Amar Achhe Jal’, ‘Samrat’, ‘Dwairath’, ‘Pakhi Amar Ekla Pakhi’, ‘Jalpadma’, ‘Aynaghar’, ‘Krishnapaksha’, ‘Janam Janam’ and ‘Jal Jyochhna’.

A distinguished dramatist and filmmaker, Humayun Ahmed-directed dramas and films include ‘Eisab Dinratri’, ‘Bahubrihi’, ‘Ayomay’ and ‘Kothao Keu Nei’, ‘Aguner Parashmani’, ‘Shraban Megher Din’, ‘Dui Duari’, ‘Shyamal Chhaya’ and ‘Ghetuputra Kamla’.

He received several awards, including the Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Literary Award, Michael Madhusudan Award, and National Film Awards for Best Story, Best Film, Best Dialogue.

Humayun Ahmed passed away at the Bellevue Hospital in New York City, USA on July 19, 2012.
