The police on Thursday identified the dismembered body found wrapped in polythene at Rupganj in Narayanganj as dyeing businessman Jasim Uddin Masum.
The police arrested accused Ruma Akter, the alleged lover of Jashim, and her associate Rukku over allegations of killing Jashim, a director of Chand Dying.
Jashim fell unconscious as he was given milk spiked with sleeping pills and was later strangled to death.
After the murder, his body was cut into pieces with machete and the accused took his body parts in two phases using CNG and Uber and dumped those in Purbachal lake area under Rupganj upazila in the district.
Narayanganj district superintendent of police Pratyush Kumar Majumder revealed the information at a press briefing at his office on Thursday afternoon.
鈥榃e have arrested Ruma Akter and her associate Rukku. Ruma is the lover of victim businessman Jashim,鈥� the SP said, adding that they identified the body following a general diary with the Gulshan police station.聽
After the primary interrogation, the SP said that the reason behind the murder was a love affair.
The SP Pratyush said that Ruma and Jashim were in a relationship.
When Ruma knew that Jashim had a relationship with another woman, she took Jashim to a flat in the capital鈥檚 Shewrapara area and killed him, the SP added.
The victim businessman鈥檚 son, Obaidul Islam Shipu, filed a general diary with the Gulshan police station.
On November 10, Jashim went into missing after leaving his driver at Gulshan 2 at about 5:00pm, according to the GD.
Following which, his two phone numbers were found switched off.聽聽
On Wednesday morning, fishermen and local people found seven pieces of a body and informed Rupganj police station.
