
Academicians at a workshop at the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday suggested strengthening the security of the Apostille platform and personal information used for online attestation of certificates of students seeking higher education and employment abroad.
They also suggested forming a monitoring team for the implementation of the Apostille platform with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various organisations, said a press release.
The UGC chairman Professor SMA Faiz was present as chief guest at the workshop on online verification of certificates of students wish to go abroad with degrees obtained from the country’s universities.
He said that the Apostille platform should be conducted in such a way that no controversy arose in the authentication of students’ certificates.
‘This method will bring positive results in certificate verification. This will save time, labour and money of the students and reduce their suffering.’
UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, foreign affairs ministry additional secretary Md Nazrul Islam and the UGC secretary Md Fakhrul Islam delivered special speeches at the workshop.
Tanzimuddin Khan mentioned that the process of studying abroad should be transparent, simple and cost-effective, adding,
‘In this case, the safety and security of the Apostille platform and personal information must be ensured.’
Presided over by information management, communication and training department director Omar Faruq, foreign affairs ministry consular and welfare director general Shah Mohammad Tanvir Mansur also spoke at the event attended by controller of examinations and IT officers of 51 private universities.
An initiative has been taken to add the universities of the country to the Apostille myGov platform, said the press release.
Under the Apostille convention, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, A2I of the Ministry of ICT and the UGC will complete the verification of certificates of students, which will be finalised by December, added the press release.
