Biman Bangladesh Airlines has recently received the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations certificate from the International Air Transport Association as the highest recognition in the ground handling sector.

The airlines has also received the RA3 certificate in cargo handling for export cargo to the United Kingdom and the European Union, said a press release on Thursday.

The Biman Bangladesh Airlines also said that they had recently taken a project in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency for the period 2023-2024 to improve aircraft ground handling capacity.

‘Through this, standard operating system upgradation along with training of GSE, ramp and cargo branch staff has been taken to increase and modernise the quality of ground handling services.’

The airlines alleged that without presenting any evidence, a vested interest was giving purposeful and fabricated statements in various media and social media against the state-owned organisation.

Biman earns significant revenue from the ground handling sector, the press release mentioned, adding, ‘If this responsibility is given to a foreign organisation, the country will lose a huge amount of revenue, and the interests of the country will also be damaged.’

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is making extensive preparations for the third terminal, mentioned the press release, adding that new equipment was being purchased.

‘Several pieces of equipment have already been added to the GSE fleet of aircraft. Also, within a few months, about 70 such equipment, including pushback tow tractors, air start units, container pallet units, ambulifts, passenger steps, belt loaders, container pallet transporters, container pallet loaders, water carts, and flush carts will be added to the GSE fleet.’
