Border Guard Bangladesh seized different products, including fabrics and cosmetics, smuggled in the country from India in Habiganj on Saturday.

A press release, issued by the BGB 55 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Imdadul Bari, said that a team of the BGB conducted a drive on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Madhabpur in the district in the early hours of Saturday.

‘A covered van loaded with India-made products was stopped during the drive, and seized 646 piece saris, 2,992 metre of velvet clothes and 32,000 piece of cosmetic products,’ he said.

Mentioning the market price of the seized smuggled goods would be about Tk 3 crore, the BGB officer said that the truck driver and his helper, however, could not be detained as they immediately fled the scene.

The seized products were handed over to the district customs office, the press release added.
