
With the support of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, a development partner, the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation organised a workshop on ‘Iodised Salt Act-2021’ at the conference room of BSCIC Rajshahi regional office on Sunday.
Experts at the workshop put emphasis on increasing awareness to encourage more people to use iodised salt as iodine was an essential nutrient for normal, mental and physical growth of human being, said a press release.
BSCIC chairman Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Khan was present as chief guest while additional deputy commissioner (general) of Rajshahi Afia Akhtar presided over the workshop.
Head of BSCIC’s salt cell Sarwar Hossain was the key speaker at the event while Md Rezaul Alam Sarkar, additional divisional commissioner of Rajshahi and former regional director of BSCIC, Rajshahi, was present as special guest.
BSCIC district office Rajshahi deputy general manager Md Rafiqul Islam, heads of 16 districts of BSCIC Rajshahi region, representatives of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Safe Food Authority, National Directorate of Consumer Protection, district fisheries and livestock, participated at the event.
Earlier, a video documentary on the importance of iodine was also presented. About 60 people, including officials of public and private institutions, salt traders, consumers, representatives of print and electronic media, were also present.
