A group of government jobseekers on Sunday called for a grand rally at 11:00am on November 24 in Shahbagh, Dhaka, demanding a minimum age limit of 35 for applying to government jobs with an open age limit under certain conditions.
They made the announcement during a press conference at Dhaka University’s TSC.
‘Our movement has been ongoing since 2012. Recently, the government formed a commission that recommended an age limit of 35 for men and 37 for women. But the government has set the limit at 32, which we have rejected, and we continue our movement. For this, we have faced police attacks,’ said Al Amin Raju, a job aspirant.
He urged the government to issue a notification by November 30, setting the age limit for government job applications to 35 for men and 37 for women.
‘During the previous government, we were harassed in various ways. Yet, we did not give up because we are fighting for a logical cause. The previous government acted like a dictator to suppress our movement, and now this government seems to be doing the same. Fulfil our demands immediately or we will announce a tougher programme,’ said another jobseeker MA Ali.
During the conference, Sanjoy Kumar Das said that the age limit should be open-pit for 12 civil service cadres, while for other cadres age should be set at 35.
