Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Tuesday that BNP will form a national government with the participation from all parties if the party comes to power.
He said, ‘If we are elected, BNP will form a national government with the participation of all parties. We will not run the country alone. So, where is the problem? Where is the doubt?’
Fakhrul came up with the remark while addressing a discussion organised by Bangladesh Shammilita Peshajibi Parishad at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
He urged the interim government to hold elections as soon as possible after reforming the police administration and Election Commission to save the nation.
Fakhrul said, ‘The people have started doubting you [the interim government]. The people in the government are creating confusion by making different remarks.’
‘Focus should be on fixing the Election Commission, administration, and judiciary to prepare for elections, and the rest of the work will be done by those who come to power after being elected,’ he added.
Observing a lack of political expertise in the current administration, he said, ‘Factories, which are major assets of our country, are being set on fire. Why cannot they address this? Because, there is no politicians. They lack political strength.’
‘None of the people [of government] have political experience. Politics involves specific calculations and equations, which only politicians understand,’ he said, adding that delays will only exacerbate existing problems.
Referring to the protests by the students of Government Titumir College, Fakhrul questioned the interim government’s preparedness.
‘Were they not intelligent enough to foresee this? Why were measures not taken?’ he stressed.
Fakhrul said, ‘We demand elections for the interest of the nation, not for BNP›s benefit. We have given reform proposals supported by 62 political parties. Review them and decide which ones can be implemented.’
‘We want the government to achieve success. If they fail, we will fail. We do not want Sheikh Hasina to return. We do not want the two-pronged rule of the Awami League to return,’ he said.
