The much-awaited train service on Dhaka-Jashore-Khulna-Benapole section is expected to open on December 2 via Padma Bridge.

‘We’re hopeful for formally starting the operation of passenger’s train on Dhaka-Benapole section via Padma Bridge from December 2,’ project director of Padma rail link Md Afzal Hossain told media on Thursday.


He said that Sundarban Express train would leave Khulna at about 6:00am on December 2 for Kamalapur while Benapole Express would leave Kamalapur for Benapole at about 11:00am on the same day. The journey time from Dhaka to Benapole would be 3:30 hours (appx).

The project director said that the newly constructed broad-gauge single-line rail track had connected the existing Khulna bound rail track via Rupdia and Singia stations. The government had constructed the 172-km new railway track having provision to upgrade it into double from Kamalapur to Rupdia and Singia stations at Tk 37,155 crore cost.

According to the project, the development came after the government inspector of Bangladesh railway completed a two-day inspection of the line from Bhanga to Jashore successfully.
