
A total of 323 kilogrammes of plastic waste was collected from the Kuakata beach point in Patuakhali on Saturday.
The Department of Environment took the initiative following an announcement by the environment adviser about the cleanliness of the beach points, Saint Martins, Cox鈥檚 Bazar and Kuakata, said a press release.
Among other plastics, the waste collectors found food rappers, polythene, bottles, cigarette packets and cosmetic item containers while cleaning up six kilometres of the seashore.
During the clean-up, the authorities also took initiative to make tourists, local people as well as the businesspeople aware of pollution.
DoE officials, Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services and Dhaka University representatives were present during the drive.
They urged the tourists to be careful about environmental issue and cleanliness of the beach while visiting the spots.
