
Today is the 49th anniversary of death of poet Abul Hasan.
Born at Barnigram in Tungipara, Gopalganj at his maternal uncle’s residence on August 4, 1947, Abul Hasan occupied an important place in Bangla literature
He got admission at the University of Dhaka to study English literature, but could not complete his studies. He joined the news section of the Ittefaq in 1969.
The poet’s collections of poems under the headers ‘Raja Jaay Raja Ase’, ‘Je Tumi Haran Karo’ and ‘Prithak Palangka’ reflect feelings of grief, self-abnegation, and loneliness.
His play in verse titled Ora Kayekjan, and his collection of stories titled Abul Hasaner Galpasangraha were published after his death.
For his contribution to Bangla literature, he received the Bangla Academy Award in 1975 and the Ekushey Padak posthumously in 1982.
Abul Hasan passed away on November 26, 1975.
