The Democratic Students’ Alliance on Wednesday afternoon held a demonstration demanding justice for mass killings during the July uprising, and financial assistance for families of the martyrs.

The demonstrators bought out a march from the base of Anti-Violence Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University in the afternoon after holding a brief rally there.

The rally was presided over by Salman Siddiqui, coordinator of the Democratic Students’ Alliance and president of the Socialist Students’ Front, and moderated by Jabir Ahmed Jubel, general secretary of the Revolutionary Student Unity.

Addressing the rally, Salman Siddique said, ‘Our neighbouring country

India has long claimed to be a friend of Bangladesh. We, however, have not found any truth in their claim.’

Tawfika Priya, acting president of the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement, said, ‘We saw incidents of lynching during the Awami League government, and we are still witnessing them.’

Jabir Ahmed Jubel said, ‘We demand an immediate trial for the July massacre. At the same time, the injured people of the July uprising must be rehabilitated with due honour.’

The march ended at Gulistan’s Golap Shah Shrine after parading different roads on the campus.

The march then resumed and ended with a rally at Bahadur Shah Park.

About 1,500 people were killed during the anti-discrimination movement that forced the fall of the autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
