Members of the constitution reform commission on Wednesday called on Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed at his office to discuss progress of their work.

The meeting highlighted necessary reforms of the constitution and the judicial system to keep the judiciary free from influence of vested groups.


The Chief Justice also emphasised widening access to justice for the ordinary people, said a press release.

CRC chief professor Ali Riaz, commission members, lawyers Imran Siddique, Moin Alam Ferozi and Sharif Bhuiyan, professor Muhammad Ekramul Haque, writers Firoz Ahmed and Md Mustahin Billah were present at the meeting.

In a separate event, the labour reform Commission on Wednesday held meetings with senior officials from the central, divisional and district offices of the labour ministry.

At the meeting, officials highlighted that minor amendments to existing laws could significantly streamline processes.

They also emphasised the need for infrastructural improvement within the ministry to enhance efficiency.

The discussions focused on making the Department of Labour more dynamic to resolve industrial disputes, establishing a centralised database for workers and modernising worker welfare centres to address their grievances.

LRC chief Syed Sultanuddin Ahmed noted the government鈥檚 moral responsibility towards workers and envisioned a future where workers would not have to hold protest demanding at unpaid wages or risk their lives for hazardous work.

At the meeting, other key attendees included LRC members Mahfuzul Haque, Kamran T Rahman, Shakil Akhtar Chowdhury, Taslima Akhter, AKM Nasim and Chowdhury Ashikul Alam.
