Five suspects were arrested between Monday and Tuesday, in connection with an alleged robbery and attack on the vehicle carrying eight student leaders of the Student Movement Against Discrimination in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila.

The suspects are Mobarak Hossain, Billal Hossain, Anwar Hossain, all hailed from Sonargaon, and, Rakim Mia and Mintu Mia.


Confirming the matter, Sonargaon police station officer-in-charge Mohamamd Abdul Bari said that police filed a case on Wednesday regarding the incident and five suspects were produced before Narayanganj court the same day.

‘Anwar, Rakim and Mintu were arrested on Tuesday during a raid in the Kanchpur area in the upazila. At least, 148 stolen phones, including the one stolen from student leaders’ vehicle, were seized from them,’ he said.

Mobarak and Billal were arrested on Monday during a raid in places near the scene, he said.

On early Monday, a group of individuals attacked a car carrying eight student leaders, who were traveling to Bandarban’s Lama for attending an event.

At least three leaders suffered minor injuries from broken glasses during the attack, according to the student leaders.
