A female student found dead at Jahangirnagar University鈥檚 Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi Hall early Sunday.
The deceased is Takiya Tasnim, 19, a first-year student of the geography and environment department under the 2023鈥�24 academic session.
The body of Takiya was found hanging from a ceiling fan in room 7005 on the seventh floor of the residence hall following a dispute allegedly over a romantic relationship, the university administration said.
Her fellows at the hall said that Takiya might have hanged herself during a video call with her boyfriend.
Takiya was taken to Ganoshasthaya Kendra Hospital in Savar where the doctor on duty declared her dead at about 7:00am.
Sub-inspector of Ashulia police station Masud Ahmed said that the body would be handed over to her family.
The university vice-chancellor, Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Hailing from Magura district, Takiya seldom stayed at the university hall, opting instead to live with her uncle鈥檚 family in Savar.
