The police on Sunday afternoon released two garment workers leaders about 24 hours after joint forces had picked them up before handing them over to the police.

The joint forces on Saturday afternoon detained two garment sector trade union leaders from Ashulia for allegedly inciting workers. They were released after they gave undertaking.


Joint forces detained Garments Sramik Oikya Federation president Sarwar Hossain and general secretary Mahbubul Alam Bachchu for interrogation, said Ashulia police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique.

‘Joint forces took them to the Savar cantonment for interrogation on Saturday afternoon and handed them over to the police station at about 8:00pm. We have released them after they gave undertaking that they would not incite workers in the future,’ he added.

The officer-in-charge also said that they could not further interrogate them the police force was busy with Victory Day celebration.

‘If they get involved in such activities in the future, we will take them into custody again,’ he added.
