Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue and convenor, Citizen鈥檚 Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh, has been reappointed to the Committee for Development Policy for a three-year term, starting from January 1, 2025.

A member of the CDP since 2018, Debapriya was appointed for a third consecutive term, following his nomination by the UN secretary-general, said a press release on Tuesday.


He will continue to serve on the committee in his individual capacity.

The CDP is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, tasked with providing expert advisory services on key issues related to international development challenges. Providing expert analyses and policy recommendations, the CDP plays a vital role in supporting global efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The committee conducts review of the least developed countries category every three years and provides recommendations to the ECOSOC and UN general assembly regarding eligibility for inclusion and graduation of LDCs based on established criteria.

The new CDP committee will be reviewing, among others, Bangladesh and 39鈥檚 possible graduation from the LDC category in December 2026.
