
Somvob Foundation on Tuesday staged a drama titled ‘Breaking the Wall’ to showcase the life of the Hijra community in Bangladesh.
Somvob Foundation, in association with Ashar alo society and Amader Bhabna, organised the drama performed by actors from the gender minority group at Chhayanaut in the capital Dhaka on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.
The drama, directed by Anindita Afra Babuni, president of Somvob Foundation, depicted everyday life and struggles of the Hijra community in Bangladesh in an aim to create a positive mindset among the general population regarding the community.
The event was funded by Netherlands-based organisation called COC.
Md Shahiduzzaman, regional officer of the Department of Social Services, was present as chief guest.
Somvob Foundation is a non-political voluntary organisation run by transgender individuals. It works to strengthen individuals belonging to the gender minority groups through cultural programmes and advocacy sessions. Its areas of focus include mental health, education and employment.
