
A metropolitan magistrate court in Chattogram on Thursday allowed the police to take an accused in custody for five days for interrogation in a case over a clash between police and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das on the court premises.
Metropolitan magistrate Begum Nusrat Jahan Jinia passed the order responding to a petition by the investigating officer, said Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, assistant public prosecutor of the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
The accused is Saju Baidya, 39, of Patharghata Doctor Lane under Kotwali Police Station in the city.
Raihanul said that local people caught Saju on the day of the incident and handed him over to the police.
‘He was admitted to CMCH for treatment. Today, the investigating officer produced him before the court and sought a seven-day remand,’ he said.
A total of six cases have been filed so far over the incidents centring the lawyer murder near the court premises in Chattogram city on November 26.
Charges in these cases include, among others, obstructing government officers from performing duty and vandalism.
A total of 40 people have been arrested in connection with the cases over the killing of Saiful.
