
Summit Corporation Limited is now operating 15 power plants out of 18, said a press release on Thursday.
The company operates 18 power plants with a combined capacity of 2,255MW, along with Bangladesh’s second Floating Storage and Regasification Unit capable of handling 500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
Of these, Summit Power Limited, a publicly listed entity, and Summit Corporation jointly own 15 plants with an installed capacity of 976MW.
Three Unit I Power Plants in Ashulia, Madhabdi, and Chandina, with a combined capacity of 33MW, are currently shut down due to gas supply constraints. These plants have Power Purchase Agreements valid until November 21, 2028, under ‘No Electricity, No Payment’ arrangement without guaranteed off-take.
The 102MW HFO-fired Madanganj Power Plant in Narayanganj has been non-operational since mid-August 2024, as the Bangladesh Power Development Board has not issued electricity demand orders.
The Jangalia Power Plant, a 33MW gas-fired facility, has been shut down since the PPA expired on June 24, 2024.
Despite the shutdowns, 10 SPL power plants with a combined installed capacity of 808MW remain operational.
Three turbine power plants—Summit Meghnaghat Power Company Limited, Summit Meghnaghat II Power Company Limited, and Summit Bibiyana Power Company Limited—with an installed capacity of 1,279MW, are fully operational, as is the FSRU.
Summit Power Limited has requested an extension until March 31, 2025, to submit audited financial statements for the fiscal year, ending June 30, 2024, and to declare dividends. The company anticipates holding its annual general meeting between April and May 2025.
